This is too big a ship to patrol while flying blind, but I'm gonna try. Anything they can tell me about the suspect at large--

[ If she weren't in the room with people, she'd also turn on video. As it is, it's nice to see Shaw is okay. ]

[She mutters under her breath, before adding:]

I'll go see if anything's missing from the infirmary; the robots'll let me in.

I think this is perhaps why we never delved too far into AI technology, if it goes bad that quickly after conception, that's a clear sign that perhaps we were never going to be ready for it. [He isn't put off by it though, he knows he has trust issues himself, and some of them had gotten worse rather than better since arriving on board.]

It's good to be, to a degree, but hopefully you and Root would be able to convince him I wasn't a threat. And a promise that I wouldn't stick around afterward, he wouldn't even have to like me, if that was a plus.

Oh, you think he trusts our judgement?

[Haha, no.]

Sorry to disappoint. I think you could win him over better than we could convince him, anyway. He likes people who are really earnest.

[That catches him by surprise and he raises a brow.]

If he's that paranoid, why does he even work with you? Common goals?

It's not like he hates us. He... actually really cares about us, especially Root.

[She settles back more fully into her chair, slumping a little and stretching out her legs (careful not to knock into Alex as she does so). ]

He's just, uh-- excessively nonviolent, and we freak him out sometimes. It took him a few months to warm up to me, and a few years to warm up to Root. But she started out as an enemy, so, you know. Extenuating circumstances.

[ Root feels squished when she wakes up. Cocooned, almost. The only familiar part of all this is Shaw, her scent and warmth and weight against Root. But the rest? ]

Where are we?

[It's night, and Shaw is asleep, her head pressed down against Root's chest in large part to muffle the sounds of everyone around them shifting and breathing and talking quietly amongst themselves. But Root's voice rumbling in her ear pulls her out of it like a shot, and she pulls back and sits up on an elbow - as well as she can in a hammock, anyway.]

Wha-- Root?

[Thank fuck, honestly. She pushes though surprise and relief, immediately getting down to business.]

The other ship wrecked. We're, uh-- on a third ship.

[ A third ship. Root sighs. ]

Of course. Have we heard from the Admiral at all?

[ She may not be talking about it, but she's quietly taking stock of how Shaw appears to be doing: all in one piece, uninjured, here. Good. ]

[It's a good thing that she's waking up now, rather than a few days ago - because a few days ago, Shaw had looked a lot worse for wear. Now, though, she's cleaned up, in decent-ish clothes, and her bruises and scratches are well on their way to healing. Definitely uninjured, by Team Machine standards.]

The sleazebag in charge says the Admiral asked him to scoop us up. That sleazebag's a lot like the Admiral, by the way, but without the graduation and deal package.

[She goes quiet for a moment, then leans forward, kissing Root lightly on the lips.]

It's weird. There's a woman here who looks exactly like you.

[ Root shifts so she's able to comfortably get her arms around Shaw. ]

Is there? Hm.

[ Root might need to check this out, for science. ]

How long was I out? Were you okay? Are you now?

You were out when the ship was hit by a huge wave and flipped over. I had to carry you out.

[ She runs a finger down Root's arm. ]

The dogs helped; they were good scouts.

I'm sorry, baby. [ Root nuzzles shaw's forehead and gives her a kiss there. ] My hero and our loyal guards had to work so hard.

[ She really is sorry. What an inconvenience to everyone she cares about. ]

So we're just supposed to stay here until the Admiral comes back for us? How boring. What are people doing for fun?

I wouldn't call it boring; it's possible we've been kidnapped or are being held for ransom.

[There's no direct evidence of it so far, but they haven't heard directly from the Admiral, and it's a fun little theory that's been making the rounds.]

[ It's boring if they just sit there. Also if there's nothing to hack. Ugh. ]

What are we doing about it?

Trying to figure out if we've been kidnapped or held for ransom...?

[Shaw shrugs, her shoulder rubbing against Root's.]

But this is a pirate ship. The first thing they did was loot the shipwreck - not that I had any real problems with that.

I mean, [ Root says as she gently rubs Shaw's back ] are we doing anything about this ship. Mutiny, sabotage, a flash mob...?

Aren't you usually the one telling me to slow my roll? We don't know what needs doing; we've only been here for a few days.

I missed out on so much. I need action!

[ She needs cuddles. Allow her to indulge for a few seconds. ]

We do need some sort of contingency plan, though. A way to get out a signal, the means to be self-sufficient...

That last one's a pipe dream.

[Shaw mutters, a furrow forming in her brow. The way she sees it, ever since they were picked up by the Barge they've been at the mercy of hyper-powerful beings that don't have to obey the laws of physics, and she can't imagine that that's going to change anytime soon.]

You can't, I dunno, hack a communicator, can you?

I've tried. [ So much. So hard! ] I'm not sure it's possible.

[ Hence boredom :( ]

The people who were already on this ship are just okay with this? With all of us crashing here for however long it ends up being?

Some of them are. Some of them are annoying. Some of them look like we're a potential meal they're sizing up.

[And those are, as one might imagine, the people she's keeping an eye on the most.]
