She won't like me saying this, but, uh-- you wanna take the dogs? Two dogs are a lot for a nine-year-old.

[And she has a feeling that Samantha could use them.]

[ Yes but then Sameen won't have any dogs, and that would be really, really awful. ]

How about just one?

Deal. You take Bear.

[themostfun]

Deal.

[ Bear is kind of hers in the future. Jet too, but Bear is first in the timeline. ]

I should go.

[ The only reason she feels this is that she needs time alone, away from people, to decompress. It's hard work keeping all your emotions inside when you feel them so strongly. ]

Eat your salad.

[cactusy]

Sir, yes, sir.

[Shaw says, dropping her arm from off of Sam's shoulders so that she can shoot her a lazy salute.]

[ Sam rolls her eyes, but she's smiling a little. ]

Thanks.

[ She gets up and takes Bear's leash. He's incredibly well-trained, so it takes no time at all to get ready. Soon, she's waving a quick goodbye and ducking out to her cabin, grateful that it's nearby. ]

[They nod.] It could be, but I doubt he trusts me enough to for that to happen soon.

No crap; he shouldn't. That doesn't mean you can't think ahead.

I am content with this body, but I might think about a different one. [It means nothing, but it is theirs.]

"No," Neal says, smiling and closing his eyes, enjoying the massage like a cat getting scritched behind the ears. "I had certainly heard his voice before, but as for actual acquaintance, that breach was the first time we met."

Just thinking that that might help with your sense of self. Eventually. Even the other shapeshifters here have a baseline, right?

after the variety show

[ Root stays for a little while after the show to thank Una for organizing our, hang out with Jesus and chat about how much fun their act was, and congratulate the other performers on a job well done. It's fun, but it's also a lot of socializing for a misanthropic introvert. Luckily, she has the perfect excuse to slip away early: she's going to wind down with her wife.

Said wife is waiting for her in the hallway. Root goes right up to her and hooks her elbow around Shaw's. ]

Hey. How are you? I'm sorry we were the last act.

[cactusy]

The rest was cooler than I thought it'd be. Come for you and Caffrey, stay for the gun show.

[Shaw's muscles are tense, to the point that Root will be able to feel how tense they are; Shaw is definitely going to be sore later. She leans in, craning her neck up to press a kiss to the side of Root's head.]

Done schmoozing, Sunshine?

[ That's okay. Somebody knows how to give good massages. (It's Root. Root is somebody.) She puts a hand on Shaw's upper arm and pats it gently. ]

Yes. It was nice. But now it's time for it to be just the two of us.

[ Cozy, safe from the outside world, lazy. Perfect. ]

Want tea when we get to the cabin?

[Safe would be nice. Nothing really feels safe right now, the Enclosure being the reminder that it always is of the precariousness of the Barge's reality - but Shaw sternly reminds herself that she is fine. Functional. She can do what she needs to do, and that's what matters most.

She squeeezes Root's hand, and off they go towards the stairs.]

Tea sounds good, a shower sounds good. Bet you're all sweaty.

Sweaty, sore, and achy.

[ It hasn't even been twenty-four hours since she and Rosita threw hands, but the show must go on. ]

I'm sure we can help each other relax, though. We have all night.

[cactusy]

Oh, yeah? You angling for something?

[themostfun]

Just to make sure you're all soothed and relaxed after a busy day.

[ Yes. She is angling. :) ]

[cactusy]

Yeah, busy 'cause someone's been causing trouble.

[They get to the stairwell area, and Shaw hesitates.]

Too sore for the stairs?

[The elevator's right here too, after all, and she knows that some people don't take any excuse possible to do a little cardio (though those people are lame).]

[ Root pouts, thoroughly unashamed about what she did, and having learned exactly nothing from it. ]

No. I can always do stairs after dancing.

[ The parkour means she's a little bit more sore in the legs than usual, but not that much more. ]

It's only one flight. [ She says as she starts down the stairs. ]

"Chose stairs over making out in the elevator--"

[Shaw murmurs under her breath, miming writing on her hand as she tromps down after Root.]

I'm taking notes to add to your ledger page.

[themostfun]

[ Oh yeah? Once she's a step or two below Shaw, Root turns around, slides a hand on the back of Shaw's neck, and draws her down for a hard kiss. ]

[Two really is the perfect number of steps to put them at the same height, because Root is a goddamn giraffe. This is also an acceptable response, and possibly the one Shaw was angling for. She grabs Root by the face, teeth finding her bottom lip and biting almost, but not quite, hard enough to draw blood.]

[ Nah babe you're just compact and adorable :D

It's a damn good kiss, except for how the bruising and scratches on Root's face (skillfully hidden by makeup, thank you very much) flare up, and she winces even as her fingers curl into the hair at the back of Shaw's neck. ]
