Near as I can tell, forcing people to realize "the planet is alive" was not a euphemism, it's literal. Self-will and planning and everything. Made people realize they can't keep screwing around.

No idea! But the impression I've been getting is the planet didn't give them a choice in the matter, cooperate or get erased by titanic planet-created antibodies designed to get rid of the virus that is 'you'.

All of them, in pieces. It's understandably difficult to sit someone down and ask for the details of the most painful events of their lives.

It's pretty accurate. They are children, they've just been aged faster, I think, so they can be put to use. I imagine the Admiral doesn't have them here because they're villains so much as.. in desperate need of a chance to be more than copies.

I don't actually know that for certain. They wanted to make Sephiroth copies but never could.

And now here's these two, and there's a third that didn't make it aboard.

I assume it means at some point R&D succeeded but it's an assumption.

seems like a pretty easy thing to find out, right? we've got all these eyewitnesses onboard.

Not really. I imagine it's like how things go in your government. What you see and hear about is just the tip of the iceberg, and you can only guess about the rest. No agency cooperates or talks to another about their secrets.

Nobody here had the kind of clearance to find out stuff at that level from R&D. My boss didn't for most of it either, or the other Directors. Science did its own thing and only ever reported the successes, right to the President. And they didn't go into detail on how they got where they are, just the results.

You need to remember, most of the people here from our planet were not part of the company and absolutely had none of the clearances needed to, say, be there when the boys were designed or when they were born, or even put eyes on their dossiers. Sephiroth MIGHT have, but he doesn't remember. Vincent might have, but he's twenty five years out of date.

Even I only had access to Hollander's line of research, Sephiroth and the boys were Hojo's line.

we need to get you guys a genius billionaire with an insane amount of resources. it's not a fail-proof solution, but it's working out ok for us.

anyway, if your assumption is wrong, it's a hell of a big coincidence. I'm ok with putting the blame on Shinra here. having the intention to make more baby Sephiroths isn't a good look whether they succeeded or not.

Call it a philosophical difference; I don't want to assign 'blame', that implies there's something negative to having them alive. Whoever cloned them, whatever their 'purpose' was, whether to try to refine the process they started on Sephiroth or something else, they're good kids.

I'm a tool now, but I chose this life. if being treated like a means to an end wasn't something I was given a choice in, that would be messed up, too.

Though it's not my story to tell, you need to understand when they speak of being seen as tools, they never once mention Shinra or the labs, only their own mother.

My mother was the engineer of my current predicament too. Though mine only wanted me to be happy.

I'm not going to lie, Shaw. It really feels like you're projecting here. Everything you write is giving the impression you're already convinced Shinra's to blame and dismiss anything that doesn't fit that narrative.

"the victims of experimentation don't blame the people who experimented on them" isn't compelling evidence

experimenting on people is bad, full-stop

We were discussing Sephiroth's boys and whether or not they were involved in any such thing at all.

Deciding "well Shinra probably did it" without actual evidence including from Yazoo and Kadaj themselves sounds like trying to twist facts or just outright make them up to fit your story.

Not a good look.

I don't think they're evil abominations, but there's a reason they got dragged here for a second shot at life, Hewley. they deserve better than what life handed them back on your world.

There's a difference between suspecting a culprit and then dismissing everything else but that culprit.

Inmates are complicit in their own crimes. The Admiral doesn't bring innocents here that are purely victim of circumstance, does he? They DO deserve better, but they wouldn't be here if it were all someone else's fault.
