[She tells the dog, pointing to Jet's dog bed as she orders him to sit and stay out of the way. He'll get some extra pets and facerubs as he passes by her, though - she's missed the hell out of him, too.]

[ Okay, now Root remembers (leave her alone, she was focused on Bear) to go wash her hands and grab rubbing alcohol and paper to wipe down Shaw's skin. Safety first. ]

I have to freehand it, so, sorry about the crooked lines. ...not that either of us can even think straight.

Awful pun.

[Shaw says mildly, settling back down on the pillow nest next to Root. She positions herself in much the same way that she'd been when Root had had her tied up - she even lifts her arms, crossing her wrists behind her head.]

Okay?

[ Root disinfects a lot more skin than she'll actually be tattooing, then leans in and kisses Shaw's shoulder. ]

Perfect. I'm gonna start.

[ With no buildup by starting in a less painful spot. Nope. Root glances at Shaw's every time she pulls back the tattoo gun to wipe away blood. ]

[Shaw's bra has a bit more coverage than the lacy things Root prefers for herself, and that's all the excuse she needs to strip out of it entirely, giving Root a little more skin to work with (not to mention a nicer view). Once she's all disinfected and the actual tattooing starts, she lies back and closes her eyes, breathing deeply through the biting, aching, good pain.]

Should've done this ages ago.

[She comments, cracking an eye and grinning at Root.]

Yeah. [ Root finds a rhythm easily. The focus it takes relaxes her. ] Lucky for you, I'm not easily distracted.

[ And that she's genuinely glad to get back to being intimate after that hiccup just minutes ago. ]

You sure?

[Shaw, stop trying to distract her by being topless when she has a tattoo gun to your skin.]

Very sure.

[ She's got a steady hand, too. The alignment might be off, but the arrow's shaft is fairly straight for someone who's not working with a stencil. ]

I'll be all over the rest of you once this is done and covered up.

[ She starts working on the arrowhead, higher up on Shaw's side. ]

Mm, kinda fun being on the other side of things, though.

[Usually it's Root trying to seduce her at highly inappropriate and inconvenient moments.]

It really is.

[ Never mind that she's still the one inflicting good pain. Being flirted with is really nice. ]

And it is a nice view.

[ She dabs at Shaw's skin with a clean paper towel, pressing it there as she leans in to kiss just above one of Shaw's breasts. ]

Better be.

[She murmurs, arching subtly under Root's attention.]

How's the tattoo looking?

[ Next is the arrowhead. Outline first, then the pretty styling. ]

Not bad. I just thought of some really unique touches to give it.

[ Root pauses again, looking at Shaw. ]

But I'm not telling you what they are. You'll have to wait til it's done.

Mmmm, you do anything you want.

[She won't even try to peek! Part of this is about trusting Root with her body and her skin, and knowing that she'll be pleased with the results, whatever they are.]

[ Root chuckles, voice trailing off into a sultry hum. ]

Subtle. I like it.

[ The finishing touch, apart from the rather flowy feathers on the tail end , is the Morse code for 4AF inked parallel to the shaft. Because Root is many things, including a sap. ]

Do I get to look yet?

[Shaw asks, her gaze still directed at the ceiling.]

And do I get to do you next? Hey, you know-- we should try to get our hands on tattoo ink that fades after a short amount of time, for temporary stuff. Otherwise we're gonna run out of real estate.

[Either run out of real estate or put limits on how much Sexy Tattooing they do, and that doesn't sound very fun.]

[ Win win win win! ]

Is that something the Admiral can get for us? Because we could have do much fun with that.

I... guess? He got me the taser - which only works on me, by the way. This place is so weird.

[That last bit is muttered as an aside, as she cranes her head down to look at the fresh tattoo - ghosting her fingers over it, without actually touching the raw skin.]

Oh? Well, that's very safety conscious of him. I wasn't planning on going around tasing people, but I can see how he'd take that precaution.

[ At least she gets to use it on Shaw. Once Root gets over this little hangup, they're going to get a lot of mileage out of it. ]

It's a nice touch, isn't it?

[ She kisses Shaw on the cheek and gets up to get first aid supplies and a fresh needle. ]

[Shaw tracks Root's movement with her eyes, not saying anything in response: but when Root gets back, before she has a chance to start getting to work on any aftercare, Shaw grabs her by the wrist and tugs her down for a deep kiss.]

[ Well, at least Root had the time to put down the things she brought with her.

She all but melts into the kiss, a hand on Shaw's bare upper chest, sliding up to her shoulder. She is sharply aware of what a gift this place has given them, and she pours some of that desperate gratitude into the kiss. ]

[Skin-to-skin contact has numerous physical and psychological benefits, which will be good for Root if she's still feeling vulnerable. (Also, skin-to-skin contact feels really damn good, so it's a double win.) Shaw runs a hand up her neck and into her hair, cradling her head from the back as she lingers in the kiss for several long moments. When she finally pulls back, she does so only just slightly, locking eyes with Root.]

I really did miss you when you were dead.

[She closes her eyes again, just for a second or two.]

I missed you when I was in captivity too, but that was different. I knew you were alive. But when you were dead, and actually gone...

[ Shaw talks, and Root breathes her in, flushed and breathless from that kiss. ]

I'm here now. [ She strokes Shaw's cheek and cups her jaw. ] And I'm not going anywhere.

[ She is willing to do anything to make that happen. ]

Better not.

[Shaw inhales, lets her eyes fall shut again, and reaches blindly for the tattoo gun. She's going to do the thing! Just. Give her a minute first.]

I can live without you, but it turns out it really sucks.

Well, I can't live without you, so. [ Root shrugs. ] Looks like we're stuck with each other.

[ She noticed that reaching, though, so she pulls away and sits across from Shaw. ]

I'm a blank canvas. [ She spreads out her arms.] And it's all yours.

We should bandage mine up first. Stick to protocol and everything.

[And she can easily do it herself, but--]

You wanna do it?

[Maybe letting Root take tender care of her will help, too.]
